This comfy little south-suburban eatery is where
`the blarney never stops,' they say.
It's no blarney, though, that these folks definitely
know their burgers. The place is filled inside with
Irish maps and posters, dart-game machines and
drop-ceiling panels covered with local
advertisements that add a quaint and homey touch.
It's when the food arrives that the fun begins.
Burgers range from the basic ($2.95, $3.15 with
cheese) to some smart specialty burgers such as the
Black & Blue (bleu cheese, cajun spices, $3.75) and
a mega-monster: The Voss Burger, named after car guy
Ken Voss. It's two quarter-pound patties with cole
slaw and a handful of fries on the burger. And
that's before you add the trimmings. It's $4.95; try
it if you dare. We had a good time at O'Leary's and
ate well for $20.60.
Leadbelly note:
The
Voss burger is neither for the faint of heart nor
the slight of stomach.
Burger rating:
4.95 (out of 5).
Ron:
I
got a Voss Burger - and lordy, it was a killer. Once
you get your hand around it, you can't put it down
or the thing will blow up and you'll be using a fork
on it. Unlike any other sandwich we tried in town,
it's a real original. And that ain't bad.
Ray:
The
only thing better than watching Ron pry his mouth
open to devour his burger - which, by the way, he
didn't offer to share - was my chili cheeseburger. A
surprising taste treat served piping hot. Could be
south
Montgomery County's best burger.
Jim:
It
was fun to watch Ron inhale that Voss burger -
reminded me of an industrial vacuum cleaner. I had
the standard cheeseburger and it was a winner.
No single element of it stood out, but as a complete
package, it was delicious. I'll take on
the Voss burger on my next visit, which will be
soon.
